Male Fertility Research
Sperm Capacitation
Fertility preservation
Despite continuous research in reproductive biology over the last two decades, the prevalence of couple infertility (over 12 months), remains around 15%, among which 30% is due to a male infertility factor. The sperm count has been continuously decreasing for 40 years, raising the alarm for a major fertility crisis by the mid of the 21st century.
Since several years, we have been interested in the biology of reproduction and the acquisition of fertility potential by the male gamete. We studied different aspects of the sperm physiological processes leading to fertilization; from its maturation in the epididymis to the modifications associated to capacitation in the female genital tract and the fertilization process.
